MAIDEN WINNERS OF DERBY LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5— When Sir Barton surprised with his victory in the Kentucky Derby of 1919, defeating his stable-mate, Billy Kelly, the J. K. L. Ross color-bearer had up an impost of 112 1-2 pounds. I I Sir Barton went into the Derby contest a maiden and as such received all the allow-] ances provided for in the conditions. Buchanan, the first of only three non-winners to capture Derby honors, carried 110 pounds when he took the race in 1884, while Brokers Tip, the only other classic hero to enter the race a non-winner, shouldered 126 pounds.
