I I SANDES GREAT RIDE ON A DERBY LOSER One Derby in which riding was the major feature was the race won by Whiskery in 1927. Sande was astride Osmand and ho made a "miler" go a mile and a quarter and then just got beat a head. Chick Lang, who rode Jock, might have been the winner if I Lang had not made too much use of him during the opening half mile. When Jock .tired Sande drove Osmand to the front but Whiskery was right with him and Sando I just kept steering his mount out enough I to take the most out of Whiskery. Osmand [was unequal to the task, however, and ho gave way right at the wire.
