AGAINST NEW YORK MUTUELS Pitney Reports Saratoga Springs City Council Passes Resolution Against the Penny Pari-Mutuel Bill. ALBANY, N. Y. ULay 4.— Assemblyman Richard J. Sherman, Republican, of Saratoga Springs, today received a letter from Jerome V. Pitney, commissioner of accounts in Saratoga County, in which he states that the city council of the City of Saratoga Springs unanimously passed a resolution, May 2, placing the council on record as vigorously opposed to the pari-mutuel system of betting in New York State, with the hopes that "you will do all in your power to defeat any pari-mutuel betting in this state." Assemblyman Shermans reply to the members of the assembly stated: "The newspapers have recently stated that the assembly rules committee would report out the Penny Pari-Mutuel Bill. The people of my county are vigorously opposed to this proposed constitutional amendment and my constituents have directed me to inform the members of the legislature as to the harm that will result from the enactment of such a provision.
