HITLER AND MUSSOLINI INSPECT FORTIFICATIONS BERLIN, Germany, May 15. — Chancellor Adolf Hitler, timing his visit to coincide with a similar trip of Premier Mussolini in northern Italy, today inspected Germanys fortifications in the Aachen Aix-La-Chapelle sector. The Hitler-Mussolini moves, it was believed, were intended to impress the democracies anew with the unity of Italo-German collaboration and show that the axis powers are on the alert defensively. Numerous military and local Nazi leaders were at Hitlers side as he viewed the trenches and pillboxes of the lines near the Belgian border. Regarded by the- Germans as impregnable, the system of fortifications recently has been extended in the Aachen zone. The Fuehrer reached Saarbrucken late today accompanied by Generals Keitel and von Witzelben, of the general staff. He was met in the Saar by General Walther von Brauchitsch, commander-in-chief of the Ger-.man army and conducted on a minute tour of inspection. He visited every main pillbox, key point and tank barrier.
