BROADUS swerved over in the run to the first turn, made the pace under strong restraint to the stretch, where he continued well to hold IMPERIAL SCOUT safe. The latter, also under a stout hold to the last quarter, held on stubbornly under pressure, but could not get to the winner. DOC JOCK moved up slowly on the second turn and raced evenly thereafter. KNEE DEEP had no mishaps. STAR BANNER began slowly, failed to rally when called upon and was never a serious contender. LINA MAC showed little. JOYRIDE bore out on the first turn and did not extend himself thereafter. Overweight — Doc Jock, 1 pound; Lina Mac, 4£-: Joyride, 3. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES. Dr. Clark, Oct. 20, 1921—1:49—4—119. BLACK GIFT, in close quarters soon after the start, was steadied along after reaching contention, forged to the front approaching the final quarter and, rapidly establishing a good lead, won easily. LILLIAN ROTH, never far back, improved her position after three-quarters, bore over on CATCHEM nearing the final eighth and failed to menace the winner, but was best of the others. CATCHEM, hustled along from the start, wore down WINGED VICTORY after a half mile, was unable to draw clear," gave way to the winner and was bothered by LILLIAN ROTH when tiring. CROSS RUFF, shuffled back at the start, worked his way forward steadily and finished well. PATAN made up ground. SOUND WAVE, used up in the pace, quit under pressure. FLYING LANCE had no mishaps. KAPENA was outrun. WINGED VICTORY came over sharply at the start and was done after a half mile. NATALIE MAE was unprepared when the start came.
