GAMBIT, shuffled back soon after the start, began moving up during the last three-eighths, obtained clear sailing on the inside nearing the stretch, responded gamely to punishment and was along in the closing strides to wear down CHIEF COUNSEL. The latter had good speed, opened a commanding advantage after disposing of LIKA THAT and, despite holding on stubbornly, was unable to cope with the closing bid of the winner. TOWN PRINCE, unable to gain racing room during the first five-sixteenths, was brought to the outside in the stretch and closed determinedly. LIKA THAT, away fast, showed speed, but was unable to keep pace through the closing eighth. ROUGH PASS closed an immense gap after being away slowly. STEPACOLA raced to the front at once, opened up a long lead, but began tiring through the last sixteenth and barely lasted. MR. BROOK, in closest pursuit of the pace from practically the beginning, held on well through the stretch drive. FRIENDLY PAUL, in close quarters repeatedly, responded gamely to punishment through the stretch and was traveling the fastest of all at the end. OUR LADDIE made up some ground, although never in a position to threaten the leaders. ANNIKIN displayed a brief flash of carlv speed. Scratched— 74497 Amercup, 104. HARD LU raced to the front immediately, met determined early opposition from DEEP SUMMER, disposed of her and drew out under pressure. THIRD COVEY, outrun until the last quarter mile, drove through on the inside on the stretch turn and closed with good energy. FIVE O FIVE was well placed and kept under hard urging and continued with good courage to the close. DEEP SUMMER, hard ridden while disputing the pace, faltered under punishment during the last eighth. GLORIOUS TIME raced wide, on the stretch turn, loomed up menacing after passing the eighth post, then tired slightly thereafter. TEXSTAR was unable to roach the loader. ROUGH BISCUIT moved up fast on the outside leaving the back stretch, attempted to bear out and was taken in hand. PASS OUT was never a factor. Scratched— 74229:BIob Volt, 107. SKIPPED outran her field from the start, drew clear straightening out in the back stretch, opened up daylight approaching the far turn and, responding gamely to punishment, held TUTTICURIO safe through the stretch. TUTTICURIO, restrained after getting to a prominent position, was brought to the outside when reaching the stretch and, while holding on stubbornly, was not quite good enough. TRAGGAT closed ground in the last quarter mile. DISTRACTIBLE was never prominent, although closing some ground through the last eighth. ROYAL BIRD tired after chasing the pace for almost five-eighths. WAR MINSTREL, under slight restraint early, was taken "to the outside when reaching the stretch, gained a slight lead after passing the half-mile post, met a determined bid from BE JABBERS midway of the turn, drew clear and held SILENT WITNESS safe at the end. SILENT WITNESS was never far back, responded willingly to pressure when reaching the stretch and hold on with good energy in the closing test. BE JABBERS raced to the, front at once, drew into a good lead, was given a breathing spell when overtaken, made a game bid in the last five-sixteenths, but was unable to keep pace during the remainder of the trip. ARIEL TOY, taken back repeatedly in the run through the back stretch, moved up between horses in the last three-eighths and, while responding gamely to punishment, was unable to endanger the winner. ROLL AND TOSS trailed his field for the first half mile, then closed ground during the last three-sixteenths mile. KENTY MISS, hard ridden to hold a forward position early, was unable to keep pace after the first half mile. GOSSIP TIME was unable to reach the leaders. ROYAL FLIGHT raced to the front at once, drew clear in the first half mile and, rated along in front, held on stubbornly through the closing three-sixteenths and had enough left to hold safe the bid of OUR TEDDY. The latter raced well placed all the way and was slowly wearing down the leader at the close. STEEPLETOP, under stout restraint and on the outside while in pursuit of the pace, moved up after the first three-quarters, made another effort nearing the stretch, but was unable to overtake the first two in the closing drive. FOREIGN LEGION was never in a position to endanger the leaders. HYMARQUE, well placed for the first half mile, tired steadily after reaching the back stretch. GENIE PALATINE, unable to keep pace early, worked her way up steadily in the last three-eighths and closed with good energy. DINNER JACKET, in close attendance of the pace while unable to endanger the winner, held on well to the close. OUR CREST, away fast, was unable to better her position when placed under hard urging. STRUT was unable to enter into serious contention COUNSUELLO, pinched back in the first three-sixteenths, was never a factor. PROPH tired. Overweight — Genie Palatine, 4 pounds.
