FINALE AT WOODBINE PARK Suffern Surprise Winner of William Hendrie Memorial Handicap — Big Crowd Witnesses Stake Race. TORONTO, Ont., May 27.— Suffern, four-year-old son of Sweepster — Saffron, homebred star of the H. C. Hatch stable, proved a surprise winner of the twenty-ninth running of the William Hendrie Memorial Handicap. Driving to the end of the mile and one-sixteenth, the light and dark blue colorbearer held a length and one-quarter advantage over W. F. Morrisseys Bunty Lawless. Donosiris, from the Parkwood Stable, was third, five lengths off and six before the remaining contestant, H. R. Bains Cease Fire. Suffern was under the impost of 116 pounds and raced the distance in the time of 1:46%, to earn ,640. A crowd of more than 15,000 was on hand for the final days sport of the spring meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club. Cloudy skies hung over the course for the program while warm weather prevailed. There, was a delay of four minutes at the start when Bunty Lawless refused to enter the stall gate. He was then sent to the outside and was away rather slow. Coming to the head of the stretch, Donosiris was through and Suffern advanced, while Bunty Lawless moved to third place. Entering the final furlong, Suffern had taken command and Bunty Lawless charged on the outside, but Suffern was not to be denied and drew out to the finish clear of his rival, Donosiris and Cease Fire dropping far back.
