COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 27.— Otto Grohs, Elmonte, Calif., apprentice, is setting some sort of a record at the Fairmount Park course spring meeting. Grohs, under contract to the Idaho turfman, Lawrence W. Kidd, who, incidentally, developed both Basil James and Allen Gray, is in capable hands, and if the young reinsman continues I in his current streak, "string along with I Grohs" will prove itself more than a mere catchline. Grohs has had 102 mounts since the inception of the spring meeting here and has guided thirty-two of those mounts across the finish winner. In second place have been twenty of his mounts, while the young i Californian has finished in third place with ! sixteen horses, on which he has had the leg i up. From a percentage basis, Grohs probably leads the riders performing throughout the country with a rating of 32 per cent. Grohs will perform at the Detroit oval at the conclusion of the current meeting and will sport silks later at Thistle Down, the beautiful Cleveland, Ohio, track, which inaugurates its summer meeting July 15.
