HEAVY TRACK AT FAIRMOUNT Civil War Scores at Long Odds in Second Race on Program. Racing Will Continue Without Interruption at the Collinsville Track During Decoration Day Week. COLLINSVILLE, 111., May "271— The program of eight races presented by Fairmount Park Saturday honored Collinsville and its Chamber of Commerce, the latter was favored with the principal race of the afternoon, which was a handicap fashioned for three-year-olds and older with six speedy sprinters accepting the issue contested over the six furlongs course for a purse of ,200. In this event Prince Argo enjoyed the bulk of the publics support, with Moorish and Sky Wind the second choices. Transview, which races for the Belleville, 111., sportswoman, Mrs. J. L. Chesney; Khar Fair and Jay D. Bane comprised the field which went postward in the headliner and sixth event. Although the heavy rains, which fell Friday night, produced a heavy track condition for the running of the first event, the sun shone through clear skies and summer clothing was evidenced in the large crowd attending. CLOSE CONTESTS. There were a number of sterling races contested during the afternoons presentation, the opening race going to Brilliant Stone, which won as her rider pleased, crossing the finish three lengths before the remainder of the field. The Nizam was second, a length in front of Idle Worker. In tl:e second event, in which a limit field of four-year-olds and older competed, a thrilling finish ensued, which found Civil War up in time to earn brackets by the small margin of a nose. In second place was Butch, a half length before Comet o Jack. Civil War, lightly regarded in the wagering, paid 8.80 for each ticket. Able Abe, with Don Scurlock up, was sent away from the start of the third race in first position and made every pole a winning one to have a length and a half advantage over Ito at the end. The latter enjoying a like margin over Doctor Tim, which took down third honors. Justification was fourth in the field of twelve. Racing will continue without interruption at the local course with Mondays card, preceding the Decoration Day program, comprised of eight races, which should offer all that can be looked for in the way of thoroughbred sport.
