THE NIZAM, outrun for a half mile and blocked when moving up rapidly in the last quarter, recovered quickly and. taken to the outside, outstayed RETTEF in the drive. The latter forced the pace for a half mile while saving much ground, assumed a slight lead when straightened out in the stretch, but could not retain his advantage. RED PRINCE, close up throughout, held on with good courage under urging. MISS LAMPLEY responded to strenuous urging in the final stages. LIGHT ROLLS tired in the last three-sixteenths. JIMMIE T., a sharp factor from the start, gained a slight lead after going three eighths, continued gamely to shake off repeated challenges in the last three-sixteenths and held NAUTCH safe. The latter was well up from the start, was placed to extreme pressure and showed a good effort. GREY DOLL lost some ground on the stretch turn and, but for this, might have been closer at the finish. ETHELS CHOICE improved her position gradually. QUEEN ECHO tired. SERENATA MAID was away slowly and never threatened. WASSAIL was unprepared at the start. Scratched— 76136 Palm Island, 117. ERB, on the inside throughout and following in closest pursuit of the leader all the way, held on with good courage. SPEY CREST, forced to race wide throughout, closed in resolute fashion. KIEV GAFFNEY legan slowly, was far out of it for a half mile and finished strongly. ANN STAR tired after being well up for a halt mile. FLIGHTAWAY was through earlv. GRAPE VINE, much the best and slow to settle into her best stride, was forced to race extremely wide while working her way up, responded readily to a brisk shaking up in the stretch and outstayed ROMAINE. The latter, a strong factor for the entire trip, held on with tenacity in the drive. DARBYALLEN, rated off the pace for a half mile, assumed the lead after straightening out in the stretch, but faltered near the end. REBUTTAL, outrun for a half mile, made up ground rapidly thereafter when he got through on the rail and worked out an extra quarter after the race. BLUE FANG, unable to keep up in the early stages, closed with a rush. BROWN BEN tired near the end. JANICE faltered after making a bold bid approaching the final quarter.
