LATONIA, Ky., June 17.— With the twenty- nine-day summer session at Latonia just twelve days away, horses are beginning to arrive from various racing centers, and a check-up early Saturday morning revealed more than 125 thoroughbreds already quar- tered at the picturesque course, which has undergone considerable improvement since the last meeting. A new top-soil of sand has been added to the course and horsemen who have been prepping their charges pronounce it one of the fastest and safest tracks in the country. Clifford "Tack" Trimpe of the clocking brigade was one of the first of the work- watchers to arrive, and after a careful sur- vey he was greatly impressed with the speed shown by several of the horses which worked Saturday morning. "Not only is the track going to be the fastest in years, but with the caliber of horses scheduled to participate during the meeting I feel safe in venturing the opinion that several of the longer-dis- tance records will be shattered," said Trimpe. Many newcomers to Latonia will race their charges during the entire season, which will give every promise of being one of the most successful staged here in years. Col. Matt J. Winn has listed six stakes and, according to early reports, all have re- ceived liberal response from the owners of leading stables. The entire plant has been completely reno- vated and the historic course is looking spic and span.
