HOLLYWOOD PARK NOTES $ e Jockey Ralph Neves resumed riding Friday after having been absent from the saddle for several days due to illness. Jockey Lee Balaski, who was injured when thrown from Lavengro while at the post on Thursday, expects to resume riding Saturday. He was released from the hospital Friday morning. Specify, one of the outstanding handicap horses at the track, worked one mile in 1:40% Friday morning. Jockey Chuck Charlton snapped out of his slump to ride two winners Thursday. As Charlie Corbett failed to ride a winner, Charlton now leads the saddle race by two winning mounts, 16 to 14. Willie "Smoky" Saunders, 24-year-old rider, who used to pilot horses for the Belair Stud of William Woodward, was granted a license to accept mounts at the Hollywood Park meeting by the California horse racing board. He is under contract to George W. Strattons Circle S Stable and has been reducing for several weeks and will accept engagements shortly. Incidentally, Saunders has been granted a license in California every year since 1934.
