CARNAGE gained a contending position early, moved up gamely when placed to a drive, came to the outside and finished stoutly to get up in the concluding strides. RIOTOUS forced a steady pace, raced into a short lead midway of the stretch and fought it out stubbornly under a hard drive. WALTER MORTON raced in his best form and came with good energy in the final issue. SAND CLOUD was in the early contention, but could not stay. BALCONY saved ground in the last stages, but failed to reach the leaders. IOOLON was held safe. SHINDIG had more speed than usual, but failed to rally when caught. GURKHA lost his rider at the start. ABMERES, away tardily, was kept on the outside and made a very wide turn into the stretch. PATSEY BEGONE had no excuses. RISSA raced in dull fashion. PHILLIPS PETE was never a factor. VICTORY MORN, in the thick of contention from the start, responded stoutly when shaken up, stayed on the outside and finished determinedly in the stretch drive to get up nearing the close. MAROGAY, in tight quarters in the first half mile, came between horses in the stretch drive and finished strongly under punishment. FLAMING HIGH, lacking early speed, finished full of run. EQUTSTAR set a fast pace after breaking clear and saved ground, but tired under a hard drive. SON OF WAR went in his best form and had no excuses. EIGHT THIRTY, hard ridden to gain a short lead in the first eighth, was forced to stay on the Inside until reaching the stretch, shook off DUSTY DAWN and DEEP END, came out off the rail and drew out nicely in the last eighth. NEDAYR, outrun and forced to stay en the outside, finished with good speed, but could not engage the winner. MASKED GENERAL moved up gamely nearing the stretch and held on stoutly while finishing on the inside. DEEP END was a stout, .factor for five eighths, then tired. TIBERIUS could not menace. ROSETOWN was prominent from the start and lost ground by racing wide when coming into the stretch, but finished with excellent courage. ARDEN LASS was strongly urged to keep within striking distance of the leaders and came with good speed nearing the finish. SUN MIXA was messed around repeatedly in the first half mile while racing on the inside, went to the outside on the stretch turn to displace PIMLICO QUEEN, but was made too much use of and tired under punishment. CUTTER failed to reach a forward position. PIMLICO QUEEN displayed much early speed, but failed to stay. JUNE BEE broke tardily after acting unruly. PONEMAH was never a threat. REHEARSAL displayed a lot of speed, raced clear, but tired under punishment in the last eighth. GERALD failed to rally when shaken up. SCROOGE would not extend himself and was held safe. ROYAL TEDDY was prominent all the way and continued eamely while saving ground. AIRACUDA could not get to the leaders. MANY FLAGS had no excuses. GRANDIFLORA was never a threat.
