Gladacres Farm Youngster Triumphs in St. Clair Stakes at Detroit — Hi Gold Runs Second. DETROIT, Mich., June 17.— Domkins un-t blemished record of three straight victories, chief of which was the St. Clair Stakes, was broken when he finished third to Gladacres Farms Sir Greenock and Mrs. W. M. Emersons Hi Gold in the fifth running of the Sallan Cup Handicap, main offering of a very attractive program offered at Detroit this afternoon. A bad start marred the five furlongs dash, worth ,680 to R. B. George, Sir Greenocks owner and breeder, and like Joe Greenock, his stablemate, he was benefitted by the ragged start. Domkin was the first in mo- tion, but he was forced over during the first strides and under the top impost of 119 pounds, found the task too exacting. What Fun, shipped here for the stake, and Jungle Moon were eliminated at the start. Displaying his customary speed and per-mitted to come over Joe Greenock established a clear lead during the run to the turn and he held that advantage until enter-. ing the final quarter where Sir Greenock moved up on the outside to take command and win with five lengths to spare. Hi Gold came from well back to head Domkin for second and Joe Greenock was some four lengths farther back. RECOVERS FROM MISHAP. Sir Greenock raced in closest pursuit of Joe Greenock from the start, and after re- covering from his mishap Domkin took third place on the turn. Sir Greenock, completing a double for Gladacres Farm, carried 111 pounds and ran the distance in :59*5. It was two-fifths of a second less than Domkins time for his St. Clair Stakes victory. The Gladacres Farm entry returned 2.60 for each ticket, and Domkin was a 9-to-10 choice. The LeBus and Ferguson entry of Ortaisi and Jungle Moon was second choice. For the first time in three weeks rain , failed to mar the opening of a half-holiday | program, but cloudy skies prevailed all dur- ing the day and the threatening weather held , the attendance down to li,000. The track | was at its best and most of the contests brought together evenly matched fields and , the public was hard put in selecting the winners. ■ BANNER MAN BY NOSE. i The Metamora Purse, a combination affair, resulted in the second popular score and a thrilling finish when Milky Way Farms Banner Man eked out a nose victory over . Norman Hernandez Prince Argo. The latter was burdened with the top impost of 117 , pounds and he did the pacemaking on the outside of the winner from the start. The pair came to the end of the six furlongs so * 1 closely aligned that the photo was needed to separate them and Candescent was third, ; some six lengths farther back. Candescent chased the leaders from the J start, but she gave way after a half mile and Bomber came on to be a nose before j Basque and two lengths back of Candescent at the end. Prince Argo had the winner hemmed to the rail during the run through the stretch and did not allow room for him until near the end, where Banner Man dropped his nose in front. DISQUALIFICATION IN FIRST. A disqualification came with the first race i when Sweeping Bow, which gained a head l victory, was set back to second place and s Noahs Pride, the victim, was awarded the J winners portion. Strange Times was third. ! Arnold Sorsen, who rode Sweeping Bow, was ! suspended for ten days for rough riding. Strange Times was the early pacemaker, r but when Sweeping Bow moved up on the t outside of her and Noahs Pride made his bid from the inside she was shuffled back. During the run through the stretch Sweep- I a ing Bow bore over on Noahs Pride and. I -thus benefited, he lasted, but the stewards ! : f immediately ordered the foul claim sign i] flashed and after viewing the picture set D back Sweeping Bow. Strange Times was a h luke-warm favorite. o Blagden, always at his best over the local track, chalked up his fourth victory of the p year in winning the three-quarters second a race. Henry M., neglected in the wagering, o was second and third went to Sound Wave! s Taking command soon after the start. Blag- tl den made every post a winning one and, h J j i l s J ! ! r t I a I ! : f i] D h o p a o s tl h despite bearing out in the stretch, held a length advantage over Henry M. B Eighty made up enough ground to carry off fourth laurels, and Takus, a strong second choice, finished fifth after chasing the winner out of the back stretch. NANAHCUB SURPRISES. Nanahcub furnished a surprise in winning the third race, for better-grade claiming three-year-olds when she led Zacabox, Melody Tone, Bright and three others to the end of six furlongs. Melody Tone, Nanahcub and Zacabox raced as a team from the start, with Zacabox forging to the front approaching the final quarter. Nanahcub, however, moved into command after reaching the stretch, and the finish found her a length before Zacabox. The latter in turn was three parts of a length before Melody Tone, which lasted to beat the fast-finishing Bright by a head for minor honors. The most thrilling finish of the meeting, and one that found Prosy, Chronology and |Oddesa Lad noses apart at the end of six furlongs, came with the fourth race. Carrying Time was fourth, six lengths farther back, and Sure Cloud was eliminated when he tossed Willie Prehm after running up on Carrying Times heels on the far turn. Prosy withstood a long drive to do the pacemaking, with Oddesa Lad the opponent, and the pair held a comfortable margin over the others until well inside the final sixteenth, where Chronology drove down on the outside to engage them and gain second honors.
