Fairmounts Army-Navy Day Card Draws 15,000 Espino Gold Beats Florizan Beau By Nose in Collinsyille Offering COLLINSVnJ-iE, 111., June 27. Army-Navy Day was observed at Fairmount Park this afternoon and, although the attendance of 15,000 was not up to the managements hopes, a sum approximating 0,000 was expected to be realized for the Army and Navy Relief Funds. General manager D. C. Burnett stated the gross receipts would not be known until Monday at which time the total amount realized for the war effort will be made known. The Army-Navy Relief Day Handicap, a six furlong dash for three-year-olds and older, furnished the most exciting finish of the current meeting when three horses went under the wire in a blanket finish. Mrs. Frank Nugents Espino Gold put on one of the best stretch battles during the session to get a nose decision over. E. Yar, Beamy, Book Plate and Topnard finished in the order named. Doubtful, Florfzan Beau, Beamy and Fergies Count dominated the early running, while the ultimate winner was a distant last. They raced this-way during the run around the far turn, with Florizan Beau opening a length lead over Doubtful, who in turn was a half length before Fergies Count. Entering the stretch Florizan Beau opened a good lead with Fergies Count saving much ground and moving into the runner-up position, with Doubtful dropping back third. Espino Gold began to make his move as he came into the stretch and swinging to the middle of the track moved into fifth place an eighth from the finish. In the drive Florizan Beau began to tire and Fergies Count looked like he might wear down the early leader, but out of the pack came the Nugent representative with a terrific burst of speed under steady punishment by Don Scurlock and he got up in the last stride to get the decision. Jubilo, racing for the partnership of Keith and Eskew, became the first horse at the meeting to win four races. The son of Swincraft, bred by Mrs. Will Rogers, wife of the late humorist, had the services of Chalmer Basham, who was astride his third winner of the day when Jubilo earned his neck decision in the fifth race over Surgeon Dick and Devils Frolic, who finished in a dead heat for the place. Chandera, the favorite, could do no better than finish fourth, half a length to the rear of the second horse in the six-furlong dash. The first race at six furlongs resulted in an interesting content, which found D. C. Wilhelms Monon Lad winning his third race of the year and his second during the current meeting. The veteran son of Nas-sak took the sprint by a length from Miss Nadi.-with Oxford Lad a close third. Winning Chance and Tinder Gal, two of the choices, raced well to the final eighth, when they tired and finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
