Crop of Glade Valley Farm Foals I This Season Numbers Twenty Head t 1 3 i 1 ! 1 : j : , 1 . ; : ; ! - ; ; ; Several Youngsters at Brann Establishment Are Related To Noted Stake Winners WALKERS VTLLE , Md . , June 27. Twenty thoroughbred "war babies," including two little brothers, respectively, of the pride of Maryland, Challedon, and the latters running-mate, the "little big horse," Pictor, comprise this years foal crop at William Leavitt Branns Glade Valley Farm, near here. Of the 11 colts and nine fillies foaled here during this years early months of war and strife, six are related to well known stake winners. Heading the group naturally, are the full brothers to Challe-don and Pictor. Others are a half-brother to the Brookmeade Stables good mare Pomayya, winner of the 0,000 Black Helen Handicap at Hialeah Park; a half-sister to Thanksgiving, prominent stake winner a few seasons ago; a full sister to Aethelwold and Savage Beauty, both winners of stakes; and, a full sister to the Maryland Futurity winner, Challamore. The boy coated brother to Challedon, sired, by Challenger H. and from the Sir Gallahad HE. mare Laura Gal, is a striking colt. Possessed of a good shoulder and strong hind quarters, the well developed little fellow already displays the sturdiness that his sire bestows to his pet. Also of attractive conformation is Pictors little brother, likewise a bay. That offspring of Challenger H. and the Dark Legend mare Lady Legend is highly regarded. Fourteen by Challenger II. Fourteen of the 20 foals are by Branns sire Challenger n. That imported son of Swynford is the sire of eight crops of racing age, including his two-year-olds of this season. Exclusive of the current jur veniles representing the 15-year-old stallion, his 64 winners have averaged earnings of ,398. In 1939, due to the successful efforts of Challedon, Challenger H. led the sires list with 42 of his performers earning 16,281. Last year he was" among the first 20 leading sires. Forty-four of his get won 46,330.
