Liberty Handicap Detroit Tracks Holiday Feature Wise Moss May Try for Double In 000 Six-Furlong Test DETROIT, Mich., June 27. Splendid sport is in store for patrons of the Detroit Fair Grounds during the week of Monday, June 29 to Saturday, July 4. Several important events are scheduled for decision and all of these are expected to draw stellar fields from the strong division of handicap performers quartered here. The eighth running of the ,000 Liberty Handicap will headline the July 4 holiday program. This top attraction is for three-year-olds and upward at six furlongs, and annually has attracted a good band of contestants. The 1941 running of the Liberty fell to Mrs. Edward McCuans Wise Moss, who is on the grounds and recently established i. new track record of 1:10 for six furlongs. The McCuan filly probably will accept the issue in the 1942 renewal of. the Liberty and will have an opportunity to become a double winner of the feature. Supporting events on the Fourth of July card include the ,000 Independence Day I Handicap, a mile and seventy yards test . ifor three-year-olds and upward, and the ,500 George Washington- Handicap, a five-furlong dash for two-year-olds. The ! final race of the day will be contested over the Pierce Turf Course, which is at "about" 1 one mile and five and a half furlongs, i Mondays racing will be featured by the Palmer Park Purse, a six-furlong sprint for i three-year-olds and upward. The Briggs 1 Purse and the Zev Purse are the better offerings on the Tuesday card, and Wednesdays program will be topped by the renewal of the ,000 Turf and Paddock Club Dinner Purse, the ,500 Jack-!son Handicap and the ,500 Birmingham Handicap. The ,500 Cranbrook Purse, one mile and seventy yards test for three-year-olds, is scheduled for Thursday, while the ,500 Tecumseh Handicap and the Edison Purse are down for decision on Friday.
