. Quarterback Home First Again at Thistle Down Lasts to Gain Head Decision . Oyer Earliana in Mam Event WARRENSVILLE, Ohio, June 27. Quarterback carried G. Gilberts colors to their third consecutive victory in as many starts today at Thistle Down to account for the Cleveland Press Handicap, at one mile and forty yards. Responding to strong handling, the four-year-old son of Quatre Bras n. had enough left at the end to outfinish Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Wagners fast closing Earliana by a head. The tiring Crimson Tide, owned by P. L. Hopkins, had little trouble saving the minor award. Quarterback was hustled from the break to take command rounding the first turn, then was taken in hand for the run down the "back stretch. Closely followed by Crimson Tide entering the back lane, the winner lost no time in widening his margin of two lengths before the field had reached the half-mile pole. At this point, the runner-up was put to a drive, but was found wanting. The Wagner representative was running easily in the third spot. Nearing the final turn, the winner had a daylight advantage while saving ground, but jockey McCadden sensed the coming rush of Earliana and started working on his charge to keep his going at his best. Leaving the furlong pole, the margin had dwindled to a length, with the Cuban rider, Diaz, on Earliana, kicking and whipping. From this point to the wire it was a nip and tuck battle, with the winner gaining a head advantage at the end. Crimson Tide held a three-length advantage over Jim Pat, with Little Abner trailing.
