Aiding War Effort Theme at Arlington Stage Army-Navy Xard on Saturday Profits of July 4 Holiday To Relief Funds Emoloyes And Jockeys Pledge Support ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 27. Arlington Parks program for next week comes to a grand climax on Saturday, July 4, with the 14th running of the Stars and Stripes. Handicap which features the day Arlington Park has devoted to Army and Navy Relief. The tracks entire profits have been dedicated to the armed forces. Some weeks ago Arlington Park decided that its minimum contribution to the war effort should consist of the proceeds of its best day of the season. Since then the tracks employes, including he stewards, racing secretary and staff department heads, agreed to invest a minimum of 10 per cent of their salaries and wages in War Bonds. Jockeys riding at Arlington Park also agreed to make similar minimum investments of 10 per cent of their regular fees and 50 per cent of whatever they obtain from riding in stakes. All of these bonds and stamps will be purchased at the booths for that purpose in the grandstand and clubhouse where the general public may purchase purchases. Speed Up Running of Races Finishing touches of preparations for the holiday program, which will include the appearance of the entire Great Lakes Naval Station Band of 85 pieces and an Army Drill Team of 28 men from Camp Grant, are being made over the week-end, including plans for a special race in addition to the regular program of eight races. Two stakes will be run earlier in the week. These are the Rolling Lawn Handicap on the grass course on Wednesday and the Northwestern Handicap on Thursday. In an effort to speed up the time between races and end each days program earlier so returning trains may reach the city as early as possible, the entire racing schedule lias been accelerated. As an example, the first four horses to finish in each race are unsaddled in front of the stands While the remaining horses are unsaddled in the paddock under the stands. Scales on which the riders weigh in are located at both places. Thirteen nominations were made for the Rolling Lawn Handicap, 25 for the North-, western. The former, on the turf, is at one and one-eighth miles and carried ,000 in added money The Northwestern is a seven-furlong sprint and is endowed with ,000 added. The Stars and Stripes Handicap, which will be contested at a mile and three-sixteenths and which will carry a 0,000 added purse, has attracted some of the outstanding handicap horses in the country. Whirlaway is among the eligibles and so are such other big name horses as Steel Heels, who won the stage a year ago, Marriage, Sirocco, Equifox, Moscow LL, Genl Manager, Staretor, No Competition, Woof Woof, Technician, Welcome Pass, Best Seller, Royal Crusader, Heartman, and Equitable.
