Alger Memorial » f Buhl Colt Takes Up 120 in Seasonal Bow; Wee Admiral Starter in Sprint Offering FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 29. —The 1946 renewal of the 0,000 Col. Alger Memorial Handicap and the ,000 Decoration Day Handicap are to co-feature the well-balanced program arranged for presentation tomorrow at the Woodward Avenue racing grounds. Detroit Racing Association officials expect to entertain one of the largest crowds of the current season and present indications point to clear weather and a fast track for the holiday sport. The Col. Alger, a one mile and one-sixteenth test for three-year-olds and upward, attracted an even dozen of the better middle distance performers quartered at the local oval and shapes up as an unusually good route offering. Theodore D. Buhls fleet Air Sailor, victor in four of his 10 starts last year and the winner of 8,200, is to make his first appearance under silks this season and he has been assigned top weight of 120 pounds. Sterling Young is to have the mount on the Buhl colt, assuring the locally-owned star good handling. Sir Sprite, San Yet Coupled Well-regarded eligibles for the Col. Alger and imposted at 115 pounds each are O. F. Woodwards Sir Sprite, W. E. McDonalds hard-hitting Tulachmore and Jess Trents Castleman, who was a stake winner in New England last year. Milton Shagrins silks are to be carried in the feature by Darby Dimout, who raced very impressively in Kentucky before shipment to the local track. Darby Dimout is to carry 114 pounds and he will renew his auel with Albert Wellmans Wise Paisano, assigned 110 pounds. Darby Dimout lost a head verdict to Wise Paisano in the Man o War Handicap inaugural day, despite the fact that the Shagrin router did not care too much for the muddy track which prevailed here on that occasion. Grissom and Sherman are to be represented in the Col. Alger by Unconditional, who is to take up 114 pounds. Unconditional hasnt raced to expectations thus far this year, but he Is remembered by Motor City patrons for a game triumph here In the 1945 running of the Marie Guyon Handicap. A. F. Walls Tiger Man, 113 pounds; W. L. Huntleys Top Reward, who finished third in the Man o War and is imposted with 112; L. Donofrios Macks Miss, 106, and F. C. and M. G. Fochts Por Siaca, 108, complete the probable starting band for the feature. Macks Miss and Por Siaca are to race coupled and they will be saddled for their engagements by L. Donofrio. Seven three-year-olds are to contest the six-furlong Decoration Day Handicap, and R. S. McLaughlins Canadian invader. Wee Admiral, a starter in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, drew the post of honor with 120 pounds. Steven Valentis Mrs. Valenti, 105, and A. Ferraras Wow, 106, make up an entry, while Gregalach, assigned 114, is to run coupled with his better-regarded stablemate Wee Admiral. Rounding out the possible starting field are Raymond Ankenbauers High Ego, 108; David Fergusons consistent Ariel Ace, 114, and Clifford Lusskys Spirsilla, 107. The last-named entrant defeated a good field here yesterday in the Ponty Purse.
