CHARLES BRYCE began well, but failed to keep up early and closed willingly under punishment. TOLECA weakened after racing prominently to the stretch. ASTOUND began sluggishly. MAJETO was outrun. SPIRSILLA went to the front early, held a clear lead when settled in the stretch and retained her advantage under a steady hand ride. BRIGHT STEEL, forwardly placed but in close quarters early, came to the inside for the drive and finished strongly, but could not reach the winner. CASTEL BEAU could not keep up during the first half mile, came to the outside for the drive and closed fast under punishment. CRAZY WHIRL raced wide. DICKS GAL failed to stay after racing prominently to the final furlong. SWEEP PLAY began slowly and was outrun throughout. Scratched— 90456 Just Flip, 108. Overweight — Crazy Whirl, 3 pounds. SCOUTING, well ridden, went to the front early, made the pace to the stretch under steady rating and, responding to punishment in the drive, lasted to withstand PETES KID. The latter saved ground when outrun to the upper turn, moved up boldly on the outside approaching the stretch and, after reaching SCOUTING, hung in the last sixteenth. ZAMBE, away slowly, finished willingly under punishment. HARV AETHEL forced the pace to the stretch, then gave way. HEFTI HARRIS was outrun. PHARAWELL, in hand while saving ground to the stretch, responded readily when roused for the drive and lasted to withstand WALTERS BOY. The latter improved his position steadily to the final quarter, came out for the drive and closed stoutly, but could not overhaul the winner OLD IRON assumed command early, made the pace to the stretch, then faltered. PADUCAH could not better his position when set down in the drive. SWIFT LEGION began slowly and was never dangerous. HUGHIE L quit after displaying early speed. TOUGH TARGET was done early Attendance, 13,428; Total Mutuel Pool, 22,774. Returned to Public, 80,497, Less Breakage.
