Jockey Jess Higley Able Addition to Coast Racing HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 29. — Jockey Jess O. Higley, a newcomer to California racing, is a native of Ogden, Utah, and a graduate of the half-mile tracks of Nevada, Montana, Nebraska and New Mexico. Since that time he has ridden at most of the major tracks of the country and his victories include two stakes aboard Marriage at New Orleans, one of them the 5,000 New Orleans Handicap; two stakes with the shifty Three Dots at Washington Park and he was aboard Durazna in the match race at Churchill Downs when she beat Occupy. He was runner-up to Johnny Adams in 1942 for leading rider of America until he was grounded by injuries received in a fall and finished fourth in the final standings.
