Pf|p2Bl;-: UBS SPENCER DRAYTON — Head of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Association, explained the aims of his organization at a dinner Tuesday night at Suffolk Downs. | Drayton States Aims Of His Organization Department Being Formed Along Lines of FBI, He Tells Scribes SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 29. — Spencer Drayton, the former F.B.I. man who is the chief of the newly organized Thoroughbred Racing Protective Association, was introduced to the members of the New England Turf Writers Association and Boston Sports Editors and Sports -casters last night at the Suffolk Downs ; paddock club at a dinner given in his ; honor by the Eastern Racing Association. . Drayton, who was born in Dorchester, , Mass., and was a member of the staff of I the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 14 I years, was the personal selection of J. Edgar Hoover, F3J. chief, for the job he I now holds. At the time of his resignation 1 to accept the post he was chief of the ■ Chicago office of the bureau. "It is not our intention to start any witch-hunts in racing," said Drayton, in a 1 very brief and informal address on the ; objectives of his organization. "It is not our belief that there is a crook lurking in 1 every barn, a race fixer hidden under the ; hat of every third person to come to the ; race track. "Our objective, in general, will be to 1 anticipate as much as possible horse substitutions, race-fixing, stimulations and 1 anything else detrimental to horse racing 1 and to take steps to prevent them from 1 happening. We, of course, are aiming to D eliminate the objectionable people from 1 racing before they have a chance to 3 operate. . "We are also organizing our department along the lines of the Federal Bureau of ! Investigation. We will be striving to be as s efficient in the operation of our department as they have been in theirs." .
