While Spangled Game, five-year-old son of Reigh Count and Fancy Feathers is top weight of the field, he will be making his first start of the 1946 campaign, and may need this race to display his best form. The Schlusemeyer-Donna Maria Farms entry of Gabe Paul and Valdina Craft is expected to be installed as the choice at post time on the strength of Gabe Pauls showing during the Narragansett meeting Gabe Paul, beaten by Harris Browns Helioptic in the Roger Williams Handicap, and winner of a division of the Governors Handicap, likes the off track going which will probably prevail, and will be ridden by Harry Pratt, the Pawtucket, R. I., horse-backer, who did so well with West Fleet while winning the Plymouth Rock Handicap on opening day. The contention is expected to be provided by Morris Wexlers Plebiscite, winner of three races at Narragansett Park and the aforementioned Spangled Game. Another good race on the card is the fifth, a six-furlong event, for a purse of ,000, which drew 16 horses. Probable favorite in the race is expected to be J. P Holtons Jo Agnes, beaten only a head by West Fleet on opening day. The Tomasello Memorial is named in honor of the late Joseph Tomasello, a member of the original board of directors of the Eastern Racing Association and the man who built the track. It has been won in the past by such good horses as Through Bound, Sweet Willow and Battle Jack.
