Ky., May 16. — The Kentucky spring racing season will conclude at this plant with the running of tomorrows program. The sport l in the Blue Grass area this year met with [ a hearty response from turfmen and patrons. ■ Highlighted by the 1947 renewal of the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks » and the Clark Handicap, along with several ■ other stakes, Churchill Downs enjoyed i excellent patronage and its meeting was i one of the best staged here in the past decade. The Keeneland racing, which preceded that at the Downs, also was witnessed by good crowds and was very successful. The final program at the Downs is made ! up of eight allowance events, chief of ! which are the Desert Light Purse, the Valorous Purse and The Drab Purse. The Desert Light is for four-year-olds and upward, to meet at six furlongs, while horses from the same age division are to contest The Darb and Valorous, both of which will be decided at a mile and a sixteenth. Hawthorne Gold Cup Victress Prominent in the Desert Light probable starting band is the Joseph A. Goodwin and Lucas B. C°mbs entry, comprising Jacks Jill and Uncle Rob. Jacks Jill, a five-year-old homebred daughter of Jack High and Minstrelette, will make her seasonal debut in the sprint, and she is remembered for several outstanding performances last year. Jacks Jill won the Hawthorne Gold Cup over a fast field and she finished second m the Modesty, Arlington Matron, Beverly and the Falls City Handicap. Uncle Rob won the Pennant Purse here on April 29 and, although he is not as highly regarded as his stable-mate, Jacks Jill, he must be rated dangerous in tomorrows co-feature. Among the entrants for the Desert Light are David Fergusons fleet Ariel Ace, Mrs. L. Wagners pair, Jimpin and Nickey W.; Mrs. George Whites Diamond Dick, M. A. Waldheims Tav, Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Pilates Miss, and Ralph Shaws homebred Shaws Pride. Ariel Ace compiled a smart record thus far this year, winning four straight engagements in six outings; Tav defeated a Continued on Page Thirty-One Well-Balanced Closing-Day Card Offered at Churchill Continued from Page One useful band here at six furlongs and Shaws Pride also whipped a fair field in his only local appearance. J. H. Hogans Plover Brand, who had a very rough trip in his last start at the Downs, appears to hold a slight edge over his The Darb rivals and he is favorably weighted for the middle distance test. Plover Brand will clash with Mrs. Densil M. Hollingsworths homebred Kendor, Leo Caillouettes Bellvue Lady, Augustus and Nahms Choppy Sea, Endovina and Alesias Bodens Pal, a hard-hitting sort, and Mrs. Frank Staffords Double Feature. The last named The Darb entrant is at his best on an "off track and he has trained splendidly for his week-end engagement. The Valorous will bring together eight useful thoroughbreds but Theodore Buhls Sweep Swinger may answer the bugle as choice. Sweep Swinger romped to an easy three-length decision in the recently run Hash Purse at the Downs, defeating, among others, Mrs. F. P. Letelliers Miss America and J. G. Langs Sky Lark. The latter pair is entered for the Valorous and will have an opportunity to avenge the Hash reverse in the Saturday attraction. John McShanes Wire Quest, Sandy Strand Stables High Hope, M. Brothers, Jr.s, Big Brother, David Fergusons Bob Murphy, and Fay Foo, a representative of Woodward and Trotsek, round out the Valorous field.
