Kings Plate Trial Divided As Woodbine Meeting Opens WOODBINE PARK, Toronto, Ont., May 16. — The 1947 Ontario racing season, set back from its original opening date by a week, due to differences between horsemen and race track managements, opens at Woodbine Park tomorrow, and it gives promise of being a most successful one. As always, the home of the Ontario Jockey Club presents a most spic and span condition and, despite the threat of dull weather and only a good racing strip, the inaugural program should be witnessed by a gathering of better than 25,000 turf -minded fans. Like all spring seasons of the Ontario Jockey Club, the seven-day racing period will be highlighted by the Kings Plate and this, Canadas most coveted prize, will have its eighty-eighth running on Victoria Day, the final afternoons sport of the meeting. The six furlongs of the Plate Trial, stellar attraction of the matinee, attracted no fewer than 26 Kings Plate eligibles, which means a limit field will parade to the post in each split of the number. By a strange coincidence, the more highly regarded Guineas candidates drew into the one race. Most attention will probably be focused on the event where Harry Lahmans Kanlee, Don-Earl Stables Watch Wrack, C. G. Mc-Cullaghs Tularch, and R. W. R. Cowies Yellow Knife match strides. At six furlongs, it will be the speed horses that will receive the bulk of public support, which means Tularch and Yellow Knife may wind up the first two choices. In the other division of the Plate Trial the issue appears to lie between the Brae-side Stables Leonforte, Lome Herdmans Curly J., Medway Stables Free As Air, Stonedene Stables Welshman and C. W. Lawsons Victory Chimes.
