Downs Riders, Valets Donate 12 to Damon Runyon Fund CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 16. — The Jockeys here have donated part of their earnings to the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund to fight cancer and, including the donations of jockeys valets, compiled a sum of 12, which they forwarded to Daily Racing Form columnist Nelson Dunstan. The collection was 100 per cent, including riders and valets, and was brought about by the posting of a notice in the jockeys quarters that collections were being taken for the worthy cause. Clerk of scales Charles J. Gormley was appointed treasurer for the purpose and forwarded the checks totaling 79 given by the riders and 3 donated by the valets.
