Deny Grooms at Hollywood Are Threatening Strike HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 16. — George C. Coutant, spokesman for the grooms, today asserted that no strike is threatened against the Hollywood Turf Club, whose 50-day meeting opens on May 24, as a result of wage demands they are making against owners and trainers. In a statement contradicting published reports of labor troubles that may cause postponement of Hollywood Parks scheduled opening, Coutant said, "I am going before a group of owners and trainers next Sunday to present the requests of the grooms and hot walkers. Any statements with regard to labor troubles with the horsemen or Hollywood Park are untrue." Coutant will meet with owners and trainers in the clubhouse here at 11 oclock Sunday morning for a discussion of wage adjustments for stable employes who are seeking a minimum salary of 50 per month and a percentage of the purses. Representatives of both groups voiced the opinion that the differences would be mediated amicably and that there will be no interference with the opening or progress of the Hollywood Park meeting.
