VERO LUMEN improved her position steadily on the outside, moved around the leaders when placed to pressure in the stretch and was up in the final stride. DAME J., never far back, moved up stoutly between horses when roused and closed gamely. KING MALCOLM had speed from the beginning to race with the pace, took a short lead on the stretch turn, drew clear in the stretch and held on well. SUSAN E. raced with the leaders to the stretch and weakened. DADS was unable to engage the leaders. PARI-JOE could not threaten. HIGH FIGURES flashed early speed. AUNT DRUM, never far back, moved into closer contention on the turn while on the outside, took a short lead in the stretch and was under pressure to hold ACE PILOT. The latter lacked early speed, moved up fast through the stretch and was wearing down the winner. COSSACK BOY raced evenly and forwardly, but was unable to engage the leaders. MR. R. S. opened up a clear lead and saved ground, but weakened. BULMONT was a forward factor from the beginning, but was tiring. HAPPY DOE could not threaten under pressure. SWEET IRENE had no excuse. VALLEY TROUBLE, never far back, was sent through on the inside entering the stretch, drew up on equal terms with VINITA SICKLE and this pair bumped repeatedly while racing in close alignment, then just got up. VINITA SICKLE raced HILLTOPPER into submission to take a clear lead on the turn, went slightly wide, swerved in under hard punishment, bothering VALLEY TROUBLE and just failed to last. The stewards held an inquiry, but made no change in the placing. HILLTOPPER flashed early speed, but was unable to keep up. CHANCE CHEICK made up some ground in the late stages. LAWYER SWOPE had some early speed, but quit. BORDER MACK was never prominent. Scratched— 19090 Laroc, 107; 20434 Miss Sweetie, 102. PORT WINE, away poorly, trailed early, then closed a good gap DIXIE PEBBLE raced forwardly, but could not threaten. NODS GIRL was unable to improve her position. ARMY GLIDER improved his position gradually, was sent through between horses in the stretch and wore down TRY FLIGHT on the inside. The latter was steadied in closest attendance to the pace, went slightly wide to take a brief lead between calls in the late stretch and just failed to last. DELORAH, never far back, was taken to the outside for the drive and held on stoutly. FAFF could not match the speed of the early leaders, but finished gamely. DAMIE trailed to the stretch turn, then closed with a rush. SHOW, outrun early, made up some ground. CHANCE DAY was sent into a clear lead, but quit badly. JOHNNIE EHRET was unable to threaten. NEVERMO lacked early speed, responded well when roused and moved up quickly through the stretch. W. A. MOORE, slow to settle into stride, bettered his position gradually and finished with a rush. LITTLE STICK trailed early, but closed a good gap when in full stride. BETTY SKELLY forced the pace to the stretch, then flattened out TRICKY WILLIE had good speed to race forwardly paced, but quit. FERGIES ARIEL, a stout factor all the way, held on well. AFTER EIGHT had speed to take a short lead, but weakened slightly. WINNEBAGO was unable to engage the leaders. The latter, slow as usual early while trailing, moved around on the outside quickly and closed with a rush. ALAN F. raced with the pace, took command on the far turn, disposed of GOOD MESSAGE and held on stubbornly. BIG HOPE raced evenly and forwardly, but was unable to improve his position. ALAMEIN did not respond when called upon and pulled up slightly lame. GUY HOTTEL was not dangerous ALLDEPENDS made a stout bid on the final turn, then flattened out.
