ALMAC displaced MARK UP when able to move through on the inside and drew clear to win with speed in reserve. WINTERBERRY rallied from a sluggish beginning, but could not threaten the winner. MARK UP outsprinted the field from the gate, but weakened slightly under pressure. DONNA BOORSE closed willingly, but made up no ground. DARK BUCKLE raced evenly. LOFTY AIM, not hurried while within striking distance of the early leaders, was forced to take the overland course while rallying and wore down the early leaders. PEE CEE assumed command when the pacemaker went wide on the turn, held on gamely, but was not good enough. GOLD BRAID, slow to settle in stride, moved menacingly to reach contention in the early stretch and hung in the final drive. LADY EGRET was always prominent, but was not good enough. JONQUIL showed an even effort. SILVER showed speed for a half mile and ran out while tiring. SERENA showed speed along the backstretch and bolted leaving the half-mile pole. BULL0W, always forwardly placed, wore down MIRAD in midstretch and drew clear under intermittent pressure. MIRAD set the pace under good rating, but was no match for the winner. REGALER, away tardily and slow to settle into stride, closed with a belated rush to be going best at the end. VETE failed to make up ground in the drive. SHAFFIE was rated when outrun along the backstretch and failed to rally. FORWARD MARCH was going nicely when he went to the outside fence entering the stretch. W00F1E, steadied when unable to wrest the lead from IDEAL GIFT, took command inside the furlong pole ana" held on gamely to last over PAGE II. The latter was always a forward factor, rallied willingly on the outside through the stretch and just failed to get up. HUSH-HUSH moved through on the inside in the closing test and hung in the final strides. IDEAL GIFT weakened after setting the pace to midstretch. BLUE CROSS, forwardly placed on the inside rounding the turn, went to the outside and failed to rally. GRIAN could not keep up. ARIEL SONG was hustled while gaining the early lead, drew clear after shaking off GINARGIE and won without pressure. The latter was always in the thick of contention, but could not stay with the winner through the stretch. FALSELY raced wide while reaching contention and was unable to make up ground in the final furlong. TEDIOUS MISS, within striking distance while trailing the field, failed to respond when roused. PHARA SURPRISE could not keep up after racing between horses and with the pace for three furlongs. GHAZALA showed early speed and tired. TEARDROP was pinched back slightly leaving the backstretch. TRENTON, a trailer for the first half mile, circled the entire field with a bold rush to assume command, drew clear in the early stretch and prevailed under pressure. OBEROD, off alertly and steadied early, was just commencing her move leaving the backstretch, was pinched back when TRENTON moved up on the outside nearing the three-eighths pole, went very wide entering the stretch and closed willingly. A claim of foul against the winner was not allowed. VILLA NOVA reached contention smartly along the backstretch, but tired in the drive. PETROBOY was hard held while a forward factor early, then flattened out when roused. LEADERSHIP saved ground, but failed to rally. Scratched— 22435 Romping. 109; 20919 Mr. Pleat, 119. HEDGETHORN moved to the lead boldly after a half mile, drew clear and was doing his best while lasting over AERO JACK. The latter trailed the field for a half mile, moved willingly on the extreme outside and was wearing down the winner. FAMINE closed with good energy, although soundly beaten. HEMJOHN weakened after setting the pace. TALASEA had no excuse. HAIRANETTE was never a factor. BETTYS BOBBY faltered badly in the stretch run. INSIDER quit. JANEGRI, outrun to the final turn, rallied with a rush on the outside and wore down the leader while showing a tendency to lug in.
