Sir Flint Game Winner Of Hilltown at Downs Veeneman Juvenile Turns Back Scipio by One-Length Margin CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 16. — Sir Flint, a quick son of Flint Shot and Borgia H., carried William Veene-mans silks to a game triumph here today in the Hilltown Purse, five-furlong dash for two-year-olds, and one of the better offerings on an ordinary program. Splendidly ridden by Willie Lee Johnson, Sir Flint sped to the wire a length and one half before Mrs. Frank P. Letelliers Scipio, second by a neck over Gleeson and Litwins Fore Caddy. Only four juveniles met in the Hilltown; Mrs. A. Creechs Sala Lou finished last. Joseph A. Goodwins Dixie Dinah, a scheduled starter, ran a high temperature after she "blew out" for her engagement this morning and was, of course, withdrawn by trainer John M. Goode. Winner of his first start at Hialeah, Sir Flint won his second purse in four outings and he raced the Hilltown distance in 1:00%. Installed a 7 to 5 favorite over his three rivals, the locally-owned Veeneman colt was one of the more popular winners of the matinee. Sir Flint, away alertly, raced nearest Scipio after the good start, and Johnson did not call on the ultimate victor until his mount was settled in the stretch. When roused, Sir Flint moved to Scipio in determined fashion, and, after the pair engaged in a brief duel, he drew clear although he was vigorously handled during the late stages. Scipio, who made the pace until inside the final furlong, continued resolutely after losing command, but he was under strong pressure to save the place award from Fore Caddy. The latter came from well back to garner his portion of the purse, and he might have been second in a few more strides. Sala Lou had brief speed, but failed to stay and she was a soundly beaten fourth. Cloudy and threatening overhead conditions undoubtedly held attendance down today for the semi-final program of the Downs spring meeting, and a crowd of about 9,500 patrons witnessed the sport. Although rain fell here during the early morning hours, the track was fast, and several of the better events on the card were run in fair time.
