j . . . Atlantic City Opens New Jersey Season at Seashore Track Today Fourteen Slated to Meet 4 Topweighted Polynesian In Inaugural Handicap ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., May 24. The Atlantic City Racing Association will launch the New Jersey thoroughbred racing season at this modernistic seashore course on Monday with the second running of the 0,000 Inaugural Handicap at six furlongs, featuring the gala opening day program. Post time during the meeting will be 2:30 p. m. daily. With the nearby Atlantic City already jammed to near capacity with the opening of a three-day Shrine convention, the track management confidently expects the opening day throng will approach 20,000. Veteran horsemen have proclaimed the one mile and an eighth racing strip in the very best condition and with fair and seasonable weather forecast, a fast track for the inaugural program is anticipated. A clear indication that, the racing during the 21-day meeting opening on Monday will be of the highest caliber was the generous response to the Inaugural Handicap by trainers of the leading stables in the East. This six-furlong fixture, for three-year-old and older horses, drew an overnight field of 15 high class sprinters, headed by Elmendorf Farms great competitor, Polynesian, who will be the starting highweight under 130 pounds. King Dorsett Carries 122 Polynesian, returning to the course over which he set a new six furlongs worlds record, will engage a formidable band in the Inaugural, his chief rivals being Joe W. Browns King Dorsett 122, Shamrock Stables Air Patrol 120, Jaclyn Stables Inroc 120 and Art-Dale Stables Gorget 116. These are the highweight members of the field, but there are several lightly weighted opponents who have demonstrated they are fully equipped to provide an upset. Overnight handicappers reckon Polynesian as an even money favorite to capture the lions share of the Inaugural purse, despite his steadying impost. In shouldering 130 pounds, Polynesian will be taking up four pounds more than he carried in last years Pageant Handicap in which he sped six furlongs in a sizzling 1:09 to equal the worlds record for the distance. Eddie Arcaro, who rode Polynesian in the Roseben Handicap, the Brown horses last start, again will handle the Elmendorf star in the Inaugural. King Dorsett will be ridden by the capable Eric Guerin. He has been pointed carefully for the Inaugural and may prove JOHN B. KELLY President of the Atlantic City Racing Association, which inaugurates the New Jersey racing season at its seashore track today. to be Polynesians staunchest competitor. Inroc also should prove a forthright foe, especially on the strength of his recent triumph in the Roseben Handicap in which he defeated Polynesian, among others. The successful young conditioner Claude Feltner, has the veteran campaigner Gorget in the very best of condition at present and off his fine races in Maryland the brown son of Happy Time Vermiculite, certainly holds a splendid chance. There are 13 interests represented in the Inaugural. The couplings are Brosnan and Halleys Danny J. and Don Miller, and Miss Ruth Howies Salvo and. A. F. Easts Yes-now. In addition to those already named, the overnight field comprises William Helis Greek Warrior, Miss Ruth SidelFs Burgoo Maid, George M. Crumps Dutch Raider, Mrs. C. O. Fergusons On the River, Marlet Stables Hippodrome and Woodland Farms Lighthouse.
