Racing Returns to Thorncliffe After Lapse of Four Years TORONTO, Ont., May 24. The initial change in the local racing scene comes on Monday with the opening of the spring meeting of the Thorncliffe Park Racing and Breeding Association. The popular leaside plant which has been dark the past four years, has been all prettied up for the occa- sion and, given fine weather, it is expected an extra large gathering will be on hand to welcome the sport back to the North End oval. Ever known for its large-sized fields and keenly contested racing, the same situation should prevail for the next seven days. There are numerous thoroughbreds stabled at Thorncliffe, many of them recently arrived from various centers, that failed to partake in the sport at the Woodbine Park meeting, and their presence in the daily line-up should add much zest to the meeting. Despite the fact that the plant has been idle, the racing strip has been the scene of action right along. Track superintendent Roddy MacArthur has worked long and with a great deal of zeal on the skinned oval this spring and today he can proudly boast of a strip that compares more than favorably with any in the province.
