Fine Response to Seven Stakes at Narragansett Polynesian Named foVFive of Events Which Closed Saturday NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., May 24. Seven stakes for the summer meeting at Narragansett Park closed last week-end and racing secretary Ty Shea reveals that 43 thoroughbreds have been named for the Spring Handicap, June. 7; 54 for the Governors Handicap, June 14; 42 for the Blackstone Valley Handicap, June 21; 46 for the Roger Williams, June 18; 65 for the Narragansett Nursery, July 4; 52 for the Bristol Handicap and 56 for the Providence Stakes, co-features of closing day, July 5. Nominated for each of the five stakes to which he is eligible is Mrs. P. A. B. Wideners fine all-around star, Polynesian. Named for three spring stakes are Deering Howes True North and William Helis Greek Warrior. Joe W. Brown has named a fleet pair in Fox Brownie and Michigan Kid. Against these speedsters the New England contingent offers its champion, J. L. McKnights hard-hitting Agrarian-U. winner of the Paul Revere Handicap and two allowance races at the current Suffolk meeting. Though Polynesian will probably choose the shorter routes, he could be a powerful factor in the two longer stages, the Governors at a mile and 70 yards and the Roger Williams at a mile and a sixteenth. New England hopes in these events will be centered in Mrs. C. P. Amodis hard-hitting Dinner Party and the Reynolds Brothers Mr. Chairman, winner of the Governors and the Commonwealth at Suffolk Downs. The Narragansett Nursery candidates must be left to sort themselves out for a while, but the 5,000 Providence Stakes promises some keen competition among the three-year-olds. Among those eligible are Deering Howes Donor, William Helis Cosmic Bomb, Brookmeade Stables Peace Harbor, King Ranchs Better Value, Mill River Stablets Secnav, Earl Sandes. Stage Kid, C. V. Whitneys Bastogne, Rarco Stables Atomic Power and Mrs, M. E. Whitneys Bullet Proof, winner of the Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace, April 26.
