Assault and Faultless in Speedy Moves for Suburban and Belmont Former Goes Nine Furlongs In 7:57, While Calumet Colt Covers Same Route in 7:52 BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 27. Several candidates for Fridays 0,000 Suburban Handicap and Saturdays 00,000 Belmont Stakes were on the Belmont strip for their final extended preps this morning. With Better Value to carry him along through the final five furlongs, Assault went a mile and a furlong in 1:51 in handy style. He reeled off fractions of :36 for the first three furlongs, :47 for the half, 1:12 for the six furlongs, and 1:37 for the mile, indicating that the champion still has all his speed and stamina. Coincidence, who will carry Greentree Stables colors in the Suburban, went a swift six furlongs in 1:12, after a half in :46. This capable, but erratic middle-distance star also appeared in top form. Bullet Proof and Tailspin Also Drill Calumet Farads Faultless, who looms an odds-on choice for the Belmont Stakes, after his victories in the Preakness and Withers, went a handy mile and a furlong in 1:52 this morning, wearing blinkers and with Doug Dodson in the saddle. The son of Bull Lea Unerring, went evenly in his trial, with fractions of :24, :47, 1:00, 1:13 and the mile in 1:39. Apparently he wont have to run much faster than that to win the third tier of the "Triple Crown" on Saturday. Of his rivals, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Whitneys diminutive Bullet Proof, who managed to beat Faultless in a prep race for the Continued on Page Three Assault, Faultless Show High Speed in Belmont Park Trials Continued from Page One Flamingo Stakes last winter, went an easy mile in 1:45. This colt just arrived from Maryland yesterday. Greentree Stables Tailspin, surprise winner of last Saturdays Peter Pan Handicap, was sent a mile and a quarter in 2:07, working alone. His fractions were :49, 1:14, 1:40, 1:53. It was a good trial and suggests that the son of Blenheim n. Tangled may be a serious factor in Saturdays classic, despite the 17 additional pounds he must carry. Khyber Pass, who will be coupled with Phalanx as the C. V. Whitney entry, also went a mile and a quarter. He was timed in2:08, and appeared to be tiring slightly at the end, which is not very important, as his role in the mile and a half event is primarily to cut out a fast pace for Phalanx.
