Officials for Arlington Meet Approved by Board Steele, Gormley to Move Into Stewards Stand This Season Several changes in the officials who will serve at the Arlington Park 36-day meeting beginning June 16, are noted in the list approved by the Illinois Racing Board at its meeting here yesterday. Moving into the stewards stand for the first time are C. J. Gormley, Jr., and Thomas Steele. They will serve along with the veterans, William A. Hamilton, representing the Racing Board; George Foster, Barry Whitehead and S. L. James. William R. Dahl-strom, who served in the stand in previous seasons, is confining his work to the eastern racing circuit this season and will not be back. Last season Steele served as paddock steward, while Gormley was a placing judge. Placing judges will be Robert P. McAuliffe, William A. Reagan and Vasco Parke, the latter moving into this position for the first time. Fred Burton again will be racing secretary and handicapper, Roy Dickerson will be in the starting stand, William Cunningham will be timer, and William J. Shelley, clerk of scales. D. P. Stevens again will be in charge of the totalisator department. The Board also approved the change in the officials originally approved for the Lincoln Fields meeting, permitting Linus Pierce a leave of absence from his post as patrol judge with Robert P. McAuliffe taking over.
