Minutes Minutes Wins Wins Exterminator Exterminator in in Drive; Drive; Top Top Flight Flight Handicap Handicap Engages Engages Twelve Twelve WALTER U. RIDENOUR Trainer of Circle M Ranchs Minutes, winner of two of her three engagements to date. Fore Caddy Gives Filly Stiff Battle Victress Proves Hawthorne Repeater in Juvenile Dash; Favored Showdown Is Third HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 27. Minutes, a quick homebred daughter of Bimelech and Zero Hour, carried Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Moores Circle M Farm silks to an impressive triumph here today in the Exterminator Purse. Splendidly ridden by the veteran Willie Garner, the Circle M miss withstood a long drive to reach the end of the five-furlong feature a half length before Gleeson and Litwins Fore Caddy, who was second by two and one-half lengths before Lexbrook Farms favored Showdown. Only six juveniles met in the dash, A. H. Burrus Sway Again, Roy Slomers Valley Trouble and Woolford Farms Emphasis following the placed youngsters to the wire in that order. Minutes, who won her previous start at the Lincoln Fields meeting, stamped herself as a better-than-average filly when she carried her 115-pound burden over the "good" track in 1:02. Second choice in the wagering, the winner was good for .40 straight. The Exterminator marked Minutes third appearance under colors, she having finished second here in her first start behind Vi-Bid. Sway Again Goes Into Lead Starter Ruby White sent the small Exterminator band away in good order, and Valley Trouble was first to show in front, with Minutes a close second. Before going three-sixteenths, Sway Again assumed command, and the Burrus colt then made the pace until he was well inside the stretch. Minutes, never farther back from the pacemaker than a length and one-half, began her bid from second position at the final turn. Sway Again gave way when settled for the drive and Minutes then forged to the lead, while Fore Caddy loomed up menacingly. In a sharp stretch duel, Minutes had a bit the best of Fore Caddy and Showdown, who dropped back after the start but came strongly enough through the stretch to easily earn the short end of the purse. Showdown might have been a keener factor in the Exterminator had he kept to a truer course, the Lexbrook colt swerving repeatedly during the running, in spite of jockey Higleys efforts to keep him straight. Chilly and threatening weather continued to hamper the racing in this area and the smallest crowd of the current meeting, 8,009 patrons witnessed the program at the West Side course. The track, which has been on the "off" side for the greater portion of the Lincoln Fields season, was no better than good today, but it improved slightly as the day progressed. Lexbrook Stables homebred Lutie Jane, four-year-old daughter of Cheick Rama Continued on Page Two Minutes Proves Hawthorne Repeater in Exterminator Continued from Page One and Manella, graduated from the maiden ranks when she accounted for the six and one-half furlongs Pennant Purse. Jockey Jess Higley handled the mare and rounded out a saddle double astride the Lexbrook filly. Lutie Jane came fast through the stretch under brisk urging and defeated Woolford Farms Conformable by a neck margin as the latter garnered place honors by a like distance before Nicolas Marschs well-regarded Track Ace, who made the pace for the greater part of the trip. Emil Denemark, Jrs, Sarge Bud was an even-going fourth in the field of 12 three-and-four-year-olds meeting in the test. Favored in the speculation, Lutie Jane was one of the more popular winners of the day and she was held at 21-to-l. Running time for the Pennant was 1:23. "
