PHANATAM improved her position gradually on the outside, rallied when put to a drive, wore down the leaders inside the final sixteenth and drew out. PORT SAID, well up between horses, engaged the leader entering the stretch, gained a slight lead and held on determinedly. HY-GATO gained an early lead under urging, saved ground, continued gamely, but faltered in the late stages. J. J. LYNCH showed a good effort. JIMS JEANIE had no mishap. RAMPAGE closed stoutly under pressure. BOB OSULLIVAN broke slowly and was unable to reach serious contention. MISSME-NOW was unable to keep up. SHOOT TO BOOT quit. MOGADOR, quickest to begin, was taken up sharply after a sixteenth, dropped back to last, then closed stoutly to appear much the best. RIVER BOYNE saved ground while forcing the pace and held on gamely. LADY CARRIE lunged through the gate, unseating her rider before the start, ran off an eighth of a mile, then showed good speed to set the pace to the final turn, then weakened. BOXIE was hustled to gain a contending position, raced on even terms with GOOD SWEEP to the final furlong, then forged to the front under steady pressure. GOOD SWEEP was sent up fast on the inside, took command after a quarter, saved ground and held on gamely when roused, then weakened in the late stages. GAY GAZEL was unable to race with the pace in the early running, then finished stoutly under a drive. WAR GLENN, under strong restraint for six furlongs, moved into command, saved ground, was roused when straightened in the stretch and drew away. FLAMING CHANCE, well up while under steadying restraint, failed to rally under strong handling. VALDINA VICAR, steadied while allowed to settle into best stride, went to the outside for the drive, but was not good enough. GARAND was forwardly placed and had no excuse. TRIPOS failed to respond to urging. LOCAL FINANCE set the pace under light restraint, then flattened out after a mile. SPEEDY GIRL was outrun. SOAPSUDS, rated back of the leader for the entire trip, moved menacingly in the final furlong, but was not good enough. OUR MERRICK, outrun to the final quarter, closed resolutely on the outside. EDNA LAWLESS was unable to improve position under pressure. LISTING flattened out in the drive. GLENWOOD BOY raced evenly. ALFRED STUART dropped back after a half and was not persevered with. NELL A., steadied while unable to secure racing room, slipped through on the inside leaving the backstretch, drew into contention entering the home lane, was roused and drew clear to win with ease. OGHAM, forwardly placed on the outside, moved around horses entering the stretch, disposed of TIM B., but had nothing left to cope with the winner. TIM B. showed good speed in forcing the pace, gained command entering the stretch, then faltered. BLENWEED, well up on the outside, went slightly wide to lose ground, then finished willingly. PAPER MILL went evenly on the outside. MYSHIRLEY opened a clear lead in the first quarter, went along at a fast clip for a half, then weakened. CEE STYLE was unable to keep up. ADONIS showed nothing. LANDN SEA, well placed and under light restraint for six furlongs, rallied mildly in the late stages. ANVELT opened a clear lead at once, was Joined by THE PROBLEM after a half, saved ground and held on gamely. SINGULAR, slow to settle into best stride, moved strongly under pressure in the final quarter. BARNACLE retired steadily. LINK went evenly.
