Mighty Story Works Mile For Engagement in La Salle HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 28. John Marschs Mighty Story, who is one of the better-regarded eligibles for the 0,000 La Salle Handicap, which will be decided here next Saturday, visited the local training track this morning for a mile trial. Mighty Story breezed the eight furlongs over the good footing in 1:51, going to the half-mile marker in :52 and passing the six furlongs in 1:19. Not asked for high speed at any stage of the move, Mighty Story accomplished his task in steady fashion and trainer Burley Parke expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Mighty Story is prepping for the week-end stake. Mrs. E. Oros Oswego Dr., a candidate for the 1947 renewal of the Francis S. Peabody Memorial, also was out for a six-furlong test and stepped that distance over the dull going in 1:22 handily. Although Oswego Dr.s time was on the slow side, the three-year-old son of Andy K. aind Fanfun made a good appearance. At nearby Sportsmans Park, Virden and Scotts Siddons, another Peabody Memorial candidate, worked seven furlongs in 1:34 handily. Although the half-mile oval was fast this morning, the, "dogs" were up and Siddons move was easily the best of the day at that track. Dixianas Star Reward, who accounted for the Rushaway Purse here on Monday, will have a short speed test tomorrow before filling his Friday engagement in the Peabody. The Fisher colt, a homebread son of Reaping Reward and Far Star, is one of the top-rated probable starters for the Memorial Day headliner.
