See Martin West, Brother Of Donald, as Riding Prospect PAIRMOTJNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 28. Railbirds here are highly optimistic as to the riding ability of Martin West, 16-year-old brother to the topflight rider, Donald Lee West. The younger West is scheduled to make his riding debut here under the guiding hand of Joe Woods, who has leased West from Odie Clelland, who is presently campaigning his public stable in New England. Horsemen here have observed the good seat and hands which West has on a horse, a quality that he came by through the excellent tutoring of his brother, whom he has been with almost constantly since coming around the race track three years ago. Many of his horsemanship qualities may also be attributed to veteran jockey Willie Lee Johnson, who took an interest in teaching West the finer points of riding. Light in weight, at 100 pounds, the Evansville, Ind., lad will be associated here with the M-Kerr Stable, which is trained by George Manley, and will also receive the coaching of Joe Woods, who had a hand in the development of jockeys J. Dean Jessop, William Bailey, Billy Floyd and Frank Truschka.
