Delaware Meeting Of 30 Days Opens Britannicus III. Seen Choice Of Ten Entered for Initial Running of Tom Roby Chase DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 28. Spic, span and spacious Delaware Park inaugurates its annual 30-day meeting tomorrow, serving as the main course on an intriguing bill of fare the first running of the Tom Roby Steeplechase Stakes, 0,000 test of about two miles which has lured 10 competent timber-toppers. Willie Passmore, who saddle Britannicus ttt and Fair Crystal for Sanford Stud Farm and Tourist Pride for Bayard Sharp, and will ride the first named colt, holds an extremely strong hand and it is likely his trio will attract the bulk of the publics support Britannicus m., a French colt who won in England before being shipped to this country, showed nothing in two flat races at Gulf stream Park and Jamaica but emerged victorious in his first try over the hurdles at Belmont Park, winning by 10 lengths after being backed into odds-on favoritism. He totes only 140 pounds in the Roby andvshould be hard to beat if he navigates the fences successfully. Trough Hill-Topweighted Mrs. E. F. Bromleys Trough Hill, top weight under 157 pounds, shapes up as the horse the Passmore-trained trio will have to whip. He romped home with ridiculous ease in the Spring Maiden Steeplechase at Pimlico, registering by a massive twenty-five lengths and acquitted himself well in all but one of his five other starts. Trough Hill will be coupled in the bettering with Rokeby Stables American Way, 149 pounds, who is a capable fencer in his own right. Others in the field are Lowry Watkins Tourist List, 146 pounds; Mrs. A. Whites Last Rock, 154; W. G. Jones Grand Illusion, 146; Mrs. E. DuPont Weirs Zodiac n., 148, and Mrs. J. E. Ryans Drintown, 141. The last two will race as an entry. The Tom Roby, named for the steeplechase rider who was so seriously injured in a spill at Belmont Park five years ago that he is still virtually a helpless invalid, is the first of the 14 stakes on the Delaware Associations impressive roster. Best of the races on the flat are the six-furlong allowance event which is fourth on the card and in which Crispin Oglebays Upper Level looms the probable favorite, and the one mile and seventy-yard allowance race which is sixth on the program. , : 1 5 5 " 1 3
