Michigan News and Notes FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 31. Edward Brennan, Jr., son of general manager Edward J. Brennan, of Monmouth Park, is distributing stake nomination blanks here for the New Jersey tracks forthcoming meeting. Duval A. Headley registered George Schneiders handicap performer, George Gains, Mrs. Headleys Eternal Shore, and Louis Lee Haggin II.s Simla after the thoroughbred trio arrived safely from Lexington, Ky. H. H. "Pete" Battle, trainer for the Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffer stable, sent the two-year-old filly Drop Dead, a daughter of Bull Dog and Creese, to Coldstream Stud at Lexington, and she will be turned out. George W. Lewis, former manager of Detroit Racing Association, returned to his San Francisco home Saturday after witnessing the first two weeks sport at the Fair Grounds. Many of the more prominent patrons at the Fair Grounds this season are making plans to attend the Keeneland summer sales in July. Several local owners plan to augment their present thoroughbred holdings, by purchases from the auctions. Apprentice Norman Cartwright, who was badly shaken up in a fall here last week, is to be released from Highland Park General Hospital today. He will be unable to resume riding for several days. Cartwright is under contract to the Kentucky-owned James C. Ellis stable, which is conditioned by Olin Johnson. John G. McAtee, who has seven horses quartered at the Fair Grounds, arrived from his Lexington, Ky., home and took over the training of his charges. Lewis Finley registered Wish Me Well and Promission after the pair arrived here from Lexington, Ky. Alex Chris checked in from Canada with Florizan Sam, Bolaris, Queenschance, Kan-i hythe, Olivia L. and Good Genii. Trainer R. Richardson checked in with | four two-year-olds that are to;carry;the colors of Jack Welch, master of While-Away Farm, Lexington, Ky. High Carrier, East Wings, Jean the Joker and Sky Nymph will campaign here for the prominent blue grass state thoroughbred owner and breeder. Kenneth Noe received the two-year-old filly, Big Girl, from Churchill Downs and the junior miss is to campaign here under the silks of Earl Gaar, Jr. James L. Chesney, prominent Illinois turfman, arrived from Chicago and eight horses he is conditioning for Mrs. Chesney will get in Wednesday morning from Washington Park. Jockey Robert Lee Baird cancelled his mounts on todays program due to an injured shoulder, received astride Vestibula Monday. Baird, Dixiana contract rider, is to resume activity Wednesday. Al Wellman, of the Detroit Stable, Inc., secured stalls here for Lucky Al, Lucky Champ, Eva T., Ominous, Young Buddy and Joy Road after that sextet arrived from Beulah Park. Mrs. Muriel McKinnon, wife of agent James McKinnon, entered Highland Park General Hospital where she will undergo a major operation on Wednesday.
