► Begin Montchanin Series at Delaware First of Distance Events Run in Two Divisions With Eight Named for Each Half DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 31. — The Montchanin Handicap series will have the first of its five runnings tomorrow, and the event, which graduates in value and distance with each running, attracted such fine response that it will be run in two divisions. Tomorrows Montchanin carries a purse of ,500 and will be run at the mile and a sixteenth distance. Delaware Parks interesting program has two other features tomorrow, the six furlongs Fairy Chant Purse, which calls for W. G. Jones Winter Wheat, Mrs. O. L. Nybergs Irisen, Rengas Stables Superb Donna, and Mrs. James V. Stewarts Singing Doll to match strides at six furlongs, and the presence of Greentree Stables Wine List in the six furlongs seventh race. Wine List, a son of Questionnaire, will be making his first start since the Kentucky Derby, where he was last of the finishers. Prior to that he had a first, second and third in three starts, and last year won his only two starts in champion-like fashion. His major opposition tomorrow comes from the filly ranks, for Cortright Wetherills Raise You is in the overnight field. Others named are Snowflares, Tantamount, Third Ace Best Blue and Third Division. Field in First Section - To return to the Montchanin, the first division will be run as the fifth race, and the following thoroughbreds are scheduled to match strides: Clover-Del Stables Cer Vantes, topweight of the original 23 nominees with 124 pounds; Mrs. S. S. Zells Desert Ruler, Brookmeade Stables Warship, Sam Adelsons Manchac, Frank Christmas Saracen Miss, Richard E. Carters Buvel, K. A. OConnors Silver Money, and F. J. Vollmers Infirst. The second division of the Montchanin, which will be run as the sixth race, will find Knollwood Stables Red Pompon and J. M. Seiders Burts Reward as the co-highweights with 115 pounds. Others in the field are S. E. Wilson, Jr.s Bubble Gum, Bobanet Stables Radiate n., P. J. Careys Oreling, T. Bakers Punchestown, A. E. Morris Ted M., and G. R. Watkins Best Go. Cer Vantes, despite his topheavy package, seems destined to be the favorite and winner in the fifth race. He was unplaced behind Artist Life in his final New Jersey effort, but prior to that won two in a row, on one occasion taking the measure of a field which included Hash Night and Gas-parilla. The other prominent members of the fifth race field are Manchac, who won for 2,000 and 5,000 at Garden State Park, and Warship and Desert Ruler, each of whom beat ,500 claimers. The second division appears to be between Bubble Gum and Red Pompon, with Radiate n. and Ted M. eligible to offer contention.
