Capot Works in Good Style for Peter Pan Preakness Winner Sent Over Mile And Furlong Distance in 1 :52% BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 31. — Greentree Stables Preakness winner, Capot, was given his final prep for this week-ends Peter Pan Handicap here this morning when he was sent a mile and a furlong in 1:52% and galloped out an additional eighth to complete the mile and a quarter in 2:08%. Capot was unaccompanied and displayed a keen turn of speed. Although kept at his task in workmanlike fashion, he was not under pressure at any stage of the journey. Capots fractions were :36%, :49%, 1:14%, 1:39% and 1:52%. Following the trial, trainer John Gaver of the Greentree forces expressed satisfaction with the move and announced that Capot would be a starter in Saturdays 5,000 feature in which he will be the starting highweight under 128 pounds. Ted Atkinson, of course, will do the riding. Reveille, also a nominee for the Peter Pan, was sent an easy half mile in :50%, indicating a more strenuous trial would be on tomorrows schedule. Crispin Oglebays Noble Impulse, also in the Peter Pan, was sent a mile in 1:41%* He wasnt fully extended at any stage and it- was apparent that he could have gone at a much faster pace had his exercise rider so elected. Walter M. Jeffords Pibroch and Wood-vale Farms Sport Page, others in the Peter Pan, worked a mile and five furlongs, respectively, being timed in 1:43% and 1:03. The Peter Pan weights follow:
