LEXTOWN was hustled into a clear 1 lead, came to the inside before reaching the first turn, was rated along until straightened for the drive and - just lasted over SAINT NICHOLAS. The latter, unhurried in the opening half mile, moved up steadily when N called upon, was taken very wide coming cut of the turn to make his bid for the drive and, closing strongly, just : missed. KY. COLONEL saved ground early while closest to the pace, moved up in midstretch to be lapped on ; the winner, but was not good enough MR. SMUG, allowed to drop back and settle into stride early, moved up 1 on the rail in the drive and finished stoutly. WHIRLING DOUGH moved up on the rail coming out of the far , turn to be a sharp contender and hung. PROVOCATIVE went between horses on the far turn, challenged mildly . and gave way. FAVORITO was a sharp factor from the break, drew up on the outside to be on even terms for the lead in the stretch and outfinished SUDDEN SCARE. The latter established a clear lead on the backstretch, gained the lead again when MISS TARTAN quit and just missed. SHAWS PRIDE was forced to lose ground on the turn and weakened during the closing furlong. PATMIBOY had no excuse. MISS TARTAN quit badly in the final furlong. CHANCE BEA had no excuse. M. saved ground early, lost ground moving up after a half mile, then took command and drew clear. ELCAN was blocked and hemmed in early, forged through on the rail after a half mile, threatened in the stretch, but was not good enough. DON OSULLIVAN swung wide coming out of the far turn and was unable to menace thereafter. NICTOR had a rough trip. WEE WEE MARIE hesitated at the break and lost much ground during the running. DONNA L. gave way in the final quarter of a mile. RAY OSULLIVAN tired. SEGUNDO SOMBRA took up sharply when in close quarters on the far turn and failed to rally.
