Well ridden by the veteran Manuel N. Gonzalez, Frere Jacques sped to the wire three-quarters of a length before Hal Price Headleys favored Pellicle, second by two lengths over S. I. Third Choice in Totalisator Shouldering 120 pounds, which burden was four pounds less than that of Sir Sprite, Frere Jacques sped to the front soon after the break and then gamely withstood a brisk drive through the stretch to retain his advantage. No better than third choice in the totalisator, the Sher gelding, a seven-year-old son of Jack High and Tatanne, returned backers 3 to 1 and earned ,475 in his Wolverine triumph, the latter figure representing the major share of the ,210 gross purse. Starter John Morrissey sent the small Wolverine band away from the gate in excellent order and Frere Jacques sprinted into command before reaching the first turn. Castel Beau raced prominently during the earlier furlongs as did Love Sonnet and Pellicle, who did not begin his bid until passing the half-mile marker. Frere Jacques entered the home lane with a clear adyantage and then Pellicle hoved within a half-length of the victor, while Castel eBau raced third and only two and one-half lengths back of the pacemaker. Bully Boy, son of Bull Dog and Farmerette, beaten but a head here in the Lansing Stakes, carried Mrs. Otto C. Neumanns silks to an impressive victory in the five-furlong fourth, which brought out eight better grade juveniles.
