Fiye Lincoln Nominees Work Out for Fixture Happy C, Volcanic and Gangway To Pass Up Final Stake of Meet WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June15. — Fiye of the nominees for the twenty-second running of Saturdays Lincoln Handicap, at a mile arid a quarter, worked out on todays muddy track at Washington Park. David Straus and Howard Wells Alsab three-year-old, Mr. Smug, appeared to be a certain starter when he breezed a mile in the goo in 1:48. J. A. Goodwins Song Sparrow breezed the same distance in 1:45%. Peter J. Valentis Cail-lou Rouge did an easy mile in 1:50. Mrs. Helen S. Reinemans Dinner Hour worked seven furlongs breezing in 1:32% and Happy Stables Happy Issue breezed three furlongs in :37%. The field for the Lincoln was curtailed today with definite announcement by trainers that the three topweighted horses in the stake would not accept the issue in the mile and a quarter finale of the Lincoln Fields meeting. They are P. A. B. Widener m.s Happy C, the sensation of the grass course, Volcanic, which is entered in tomorrows feature, and Paul L. Kelleys Gangway, winner of the La Salle Handicap at a mile and and an eighth on June 4. It appeared today that the starting field in the Lincoln will include in addition to the horses which worked today, Mrs. Ada L. Rices Dariada Gift, which trainer Jimmy Smith has been preparing slowly throughout the meeting for this stake, I. S. Weiners Santa Fe, W. M. Peaveys Puddle Jumper, Oscar J. Breaults Brolite, which finished second in the La Salle, and possibly Brown Hotel Stables three-year-old. Saint Nicholas, who shipped back to Washington this morning from his engagement in the mile and a half Belmont Stakes at New York last Saturday.
