Quiz Show Annexes Christiana Stakes At Delaware for Fifth Straight Score Withstands Final Challenge Of Our Tops by Head Margin Under Impost of 725 Pounds DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 15. — Palatine Stables Quiz* Show put on another exhibition of plain and -fancy running here today and emerged victorious in the twelfth running of the Christiana Stakes, a five and one-half furlongs dash for two-year-old colts and geldings. Bringing to five his current skein, the strapping son of Apache once again was the star as far as an audience was concerned, for the crowd of approximately 12,000 backed him into .40 favoritism. He received a topnotch ride from the veteran Johnny Gilbert and withstood the closing challenge of Circle M Farms Our Tops by a diminishing head. Two lengths further back came A. G. Vanderbilts First Glance, with Mrs. W. M. Jeffords Post Card third. The time was 1:05. The victory of Quiz Show was worth 1,300 of the 4,975 purse arid brought his record to five wins in six starts, with earnings of 1,745. His only previous stake triumph was in the William Penn at Garden State Park. Quiz Show had a burst of speed right from the barrier today and had attained command in the first few strides, with First Glance endeavoring to reach him from the outside. However, it was Our Tops who was closest at the half-mile pole. Despite urging by Bobby Martin, Our Tops was unable to get closer than a half-length of Quiz Show and, when unable to drive through, was forced to ease back to the outside. First Glance, having joined the leader, fought for command, forcing Our Tops to circle both he and Quiz Show. The three youngsters -raced heads apart going by the quarter pole, with Quiz Show maintaining a narrow advantage and First Glance between horses while a head to the. fore of Our Tops. The sizzling pace proved too much for First Glance as Our Tops naturally dropped back slightly from the outside. Once straightened, the Bimeiech colt began to challenge boldly again. Quiz Show, however, once again proved his gameness as well as speed for he withstood an extended drive to gain the verdict. Following the race, trainer "Slim" Pierce, who has done an excellent job in the handling of Quiz Show, announced that the colt would next race in the Dover Stakes, which is to be renewed a week from today at the same distance.
