►— — Ten Classy Runners Expected To Seek Governor s Handicap Vulcans Forge and Loser Weeper Join Other Invader, Delegate, for Detroit Stake FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 15. — With Woolford Farms crack homebred Delegate already on the grounds and I. J. Collins Vulcans Forge along with Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Loser Weeper due momentarily from New York, the field for the 0,000 Governors Handicap, which is tp be decided here Saturday, is rapidly taking shape. Racing secretary and handicapper Charles J. McLennan stated this morning that he expects at least 10 high class middle distance performers to answer the bugle for the rich mile and one-sixteenth week-end stake. The presence of Loser Weeper and Vulcans Forge in the Saturday race will add considerable luster to the Governors running as the pair met in several previous duels with honors rather closely divided. The return engagement of the two stars undoubtedly will prove one of the spotlight events of the current Motor City season and while both thoroughbreds are highly regarded, local patrons are anxious to see just how well they will go against Delegate, winner of his last three starts in stakes company. Vulcans Forge is to have a useful running-mate in the Governors Handicap for Thurston ColglazierV conditioner for the local division of the Collins stable, announced that the Ohio-owned establishments Beau Nash probably will be under colors in the Saturday fixture. Other nominees for the Governors classed as probable starters are: Hal Price Headleys Pellicle, estate of C. S. Popovitz Love Sonnet, Theodore D. Buhls Air Sailor, Robert W. Athas Syndicate, Samuel M. Newmeyers Turbine, and Mrs. Ellsworth H. Augustus Seven League. Johns Joy, Miss Mommy May Decline John A. Kinards Johns Joy, speedy three-year-old son of Bull Dog and My Auntie, and Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Miss Mommy, Governors Handicap eligibles, undoubtedly will pass the Saturday stake. Johns Joy, victor last Saturday over Lex-town in the Motor City Stakes, may be reserved for the 5,000 Cavalcade Stakes, exclusively for sophomores, which is to be run here July 2. Miss Mommy, well-named four-year-old daughter of Bull Dog and Farmerette, has been nominated for the 5,000 Tulip Handicap, filly and mare stake that is set for decision at the local oval June 25. While Loser Weeper raced disappointingly Monday in the Queens County at Belmont Park, the Vanderbilt homebred star, a son of Discovery and Outdone, has compiled a noteworthy record throughout his colorful career. During his stay at Belmont Park, Loser Weeper accounted for the Metropolitan Handicap and the Okapi Classified Handicap. Showing decidedly good form in the Metropolitan, the quick son pf Discovery defeated Vulcans Forge, But Why Not and Faultless, among others. Loser Weeper also turned back such formidable rivals as Faraway, Dart By, Barrage, and Touch Control in the Valley Forge Handicap at Garden State Park on May 21. Vulcans Forge, of course, comes to the Fair Grounds with an outstanding list of achievements, his last victory was a most impressive accounting in the Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park. The Collins colt, extremely well-bred son of Mahmoud and Burning Bright, also scored in the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap and the Claremont Handicap. During his three-year-old campaign, Vulcans Forge was good enough to earn major honors in the Withers and the Providence Stakes. Top weight under 128 pounds, Vulcans Forge is the early choice for the Governors and he will be saddled here Saturday by G. Don Cameron, who put the tack on Count Fleet when the Hertz speedster won the Kentucky Derby and many other major stakes. Delegate will be the main hope of the West for a triumph in the Governors Handicap and trainer John Nerud announced that jockey Eldon Nelson, who successfully handled the Woolf homebred in several top races, is to be at the reins on his charge Saturday. Delegate, five-year-old gelded son of Maeda and Brides Veil, turned in a sparkling record last year, winning the Hialeah Inaugural, Palm Beach Handicap, Coral Gables Handicap, Steger Handicap and the Hawthorne Sprint Handicap. Started but six times this season, Delegated visited the winners ring after five of those outings. In his initial engagement at Tropical Park in January, Delegate literally ran away from a good field of sprinters, stepping, sixlur Jongs in, 1|Q95§ . x The I Woolford Farm gelding then won the Hialeah Inaugural for the second straight year but bowed to Blue Border and Bug Juice in the Palm Beach on January 26. Coming back strongly after his defeat, Delegate reversed the decision on Blue Border and scored a game victory in the seven furlongs Seminola Handicap, which was decided in 1:22%. Other than Blue Border, Bug Juice, Faultless, Buzfuz and Noble Hero followed the son of Maeda home in that event. Delegate than shipped to Washington Park and scored in the Crete and Steger Handicaps in which stakes he shouldered top weights.
