Can Can Locate Locate Accounts Accounts For For Technician; Technician; Hitex Hitex Outruns Outruns Foes Foes in in Bold Bold Venture Venture Holds Half-Length Margin on Primate Whips Several Colts With Belmont Stakes, Peter Pan Aspirations in Repeat Win By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 26. Ben F. Whitakers Hitex, who has no stakes engagements at this meeting, trounced several colts with aspirations for the Belmont and Peter Pan today, stepping six furlongs in 1 : 10 to win the Bold Venture Purse by a half length from Starmount Stables Primate. C. H. Johannsen, Jr.s Heap Big Chief was two and a half lengths away in third place, the same margin before A. G. Vanderbilts Whither. Eddie Arcaro completed a consecutive double on Hitex, having taking the preceding race on Valadium. The Bless Me gelding paid .60 as the choice of the 20,105 patrons in attendance. His time for the three-quarters was only a fifth slower than the track record set last year by Mighty Quest and equaled that of First Glance in the dash in which he beat Battlefield earlier this meeting. It was Hitex second straight. Primate, who had finished fourth in the Preakness, is eligible to the Belmont Stakes, along with Master Fiddle, Trick Pilot and Dawn Flight, who were unplaced. Master Fiddle, who had been idle since finishing fourth in the Derby finished rather well and will probably be seen again in Satur-. days Peter Pan. Dawn Flight, who finished last, but was making only his second start of the year, worked out an additional furlong and was eased up a mile in 1:40 and some change. Opens Up Lead Quickly Arcaro sent Hitex to the front at the start of the Bold Venture and quickly opened a daylight lead over Jet A Dandy and Dusty Darlin, while Primate was in fifth place in the run down the far side, while Master Fiddle was far back. Hitex continued to lead around the curve, racing well out from the rail, while Jet A Dandy followed and Primate moved up between horses as Dusty Darlin folded. Hitex came into the stretch with a safe lead, but Continued on Page Three Hifex Proves Repeater And Wins Bold Venture Under Drive to Beat Primate and Other Belmont Stakes Candidates Continued from Page One had. to be hard ridden through the final furlong as Primate responded to Pete Andersons urging and cut his margin with every stride. Jet A Dandy stopped badly in the home lane and was eased at the end, as though suffering a recurrence of his shin trouble, while Heap Big Chief made a threatening move, then hung, and Whither closed steadily, but too slowly to be effective. Harry LaMontagnes Valadium scored her second victory in as many starts this year when she captured the Gallorette Handicap by almost a length from Green-tree Stables Toto. Ogden Phipps Busanda finished four lengths farther back at the end of the mile and a sixteenth after bearing Out and appearing to sulk at the head of the stretch. The field was completed by Joe W. Browns Thelma Berger, who was another three parts of a length in arrears. Eddie Arcaro rode Valadium, who paid .80 as second choice to Busanda and was timed a rapid 1:43 over the sloppy track. Valadium, a four-year-old daughter of Lovely Night Vandra, by Equipoise, was acquired for 5,000 from the dispersal sale of the late Mrs. F. Ambrose Clarks horses in the fall of her juvenile campaign. She won herself out today, the ,005 she won in the Gallorette bringing her gleanings in LaMontagnes white silks to 8,759.
